Fan Art Rendez-vous 3
March 11th, 2012Hi, it’s Brittany. Looks like it’s my turn to write here in the box! Luckily I get to introduce another fabulous piece of Fan Art for our new extras section! It’s called “Heartless Shadow” and it’s done by Marie August.
To see more of Marie August’s creations, read her webcomic Fairy Tales Twisted or visit www.marieaugust.com.
Beside that there’s not too much to report on Snow by Night. Cover for chapter 4 is done and I’m currently working to build up the buffer again. I’ve been poking around in Google SketchUp to start to build a 3D model of some of the world so I don’t struggle with the perspective as much on longer establishing shots. Sometimes there are just no photographs you can use or find for reference >__<;;
That and I kinda like building in three dimensions. Now if I could break the fourth dimension then I could spend months getting pages done and only a day would have really passed. Ooooo….Think of the vacation time I could have! I miss weekends.
This is what happens when I watch documentaries on Stephen Hawking’s theories while working on building colonial architecture in a digital environment…
Aaaaaand I think I should end it here…. Thanks for reading!
Where is the Monday update?
For the month of March, we’re holding our Fan Art Rendez-vous on Mondays instead of a page update. We’ll be back to page updates on Monday in April.
Hello
My name is Joel Barnett and I’m a student at Middlesbrough College, I’m currently producing a web comic. It would really help if you could answer a few questions to help design and create my webcomic.
1. How do you come up with ideas?
2.How do you then develop those ideas?
3. What techniques and software do you use to design and create the webcomic?
4. Do you work alone or along side others?
5. How long does it take to create the webcomic?
6. Is there any extra advice you think would help me when producing my webcomic?
I look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks Joel
Well Snow by Night is a team effort and very collaborative at times but is essentially the creation of Eric (Look under the “About” tab at the top, his contact is there!) As far as the physical look of the comic I use good old paper and pencils, copic pens, traditional brush with ink, and then color in Photoshop. I believe Eric letters in Illustator. The comic will most likely be a 5-year project for all of us and we’re producing the pages as we go. That’s all I really got from an artistic POV, best to poke Eric via email for more specifics!
Thanks for dropping by!
1. I like history a lot so I’m constantly reading history books. Real life has some very curious events. I use these as springboards for stories.
2. There’s a lot of staring at the ceiling and long walks. I kick around ideas a lot. For every one idea that makes it into the comic, I toss away about 10.
3. Mac Pages, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator.
4. Along side others. I’m a writer by trade and work closely with my artists to bring our vision to life.
5. Each page takes a couple hours to storyboard. That does not include time spent writing the storyline, which can include significant time spent researching the subject matter. Brittany will have to answer the art portion of this question.
6. Be patient; be persistent. It is easy to start a web comic. It is much harder to keep one going. The best way to success is to keep at it.
