New Almanac Page Format
June 19th, 2011Hi, everyone, Diane here! Today’s update to the Almanac is not in the form of a new entry, but rather a new format that I’ve been working on for a while. Now that I have a month of summer break, I will (hopefully) be bringing a few more interesting site updates.
Eric and I were brainstorming how best to organize the Almanac after deciding our old system just wasn’t going to work. I think this one works out much better, but please let me know what you think! Thanks!
The new format is certainly easier to navigate, which is a huge plus for me. It loses a lot of the flavor and style of the shelf-of-books approach, though, which is sad; there MUST be a way to get navigation and panache together!
I’ll let you know if a moment of brilliance strikes. In the meantime, I prefer the new system, but the margin is narrow.
I agree with you. I miss the shelf-of-books. It was a neat graphic and I liked it. Unfortunately, it locked me into a certain number of subject areas. As the almanac continued to expand, I found that the limited sections was really binding me. So we were looking for other ways to organize.
If you have any moment of brilliance, please let us know. One of our ideas was to incorporate graphics into the the subject headings. Diane has an idea about having each of the main issue areas being a book lying on its side and then each of the subject areas being a place on a book mark that extends below the book. I’ll have to see how that works in reality, but it certainly sounds neat.
