Almanac – Fish Trade
August 29th, 2013This week’s Almanac Entry is the Fish Trade. The bountiful fishing is what first brought sailors to the shores off Everique. It’s prompted wars, migration, and created a new culture. As always, click on the image above to be taken to the full entry in the almanac.
Brittany is off to DragonCon. She’s not vending. This is her fun convention. Between that and Labor Day, we will not be posting a page on Monday. Happy Labor Day everyone. Enjoy the end of Summer!
Almanac – Gulf of the Grande Vire
August 22nd, 2013This week’s Almanac entry discusses the Gulf of the Grande Vire. This enormous gulf is where the Grande Vire River meets the sea. It’s long been a great fishing spot and its banks were the site of the first meetings between the Saronnans and the native tribes of Everique.
One other housekeeping matter. Upon reflection, I decided that Social Clubs belonged under Businesses in the Almanac instead of Entertainment. So it’s been moved over to that section.
Almanac – Social Clubs
August 15th, 2013This week’s Almanac entry is social clubs. These luxurious, members-only establishments are the bourgeois’ alternative to the noble’s court. Here, titles aren’t necessary – just a good name, good manners, and a whole lot of money. One of these places is the Rampart’s Club in Sherbourg, where Jassart has taken Mathilde for a fancy night on the town. Now Jassart doesn’t have a good name and his manners are barely acceptable as can be seen by his wine glass being on the wrong side. So how did he get in? Enough money will get these clubs to bend the rules a bit.
Almanac Entry Illustration
August 8th, 2013The entire team is at Otakon this weekend so it’s a short update this week. I’m pleased to present the new almanac entry illustration by Erin Mehlos, the creator of Next Town Over – an incredible webcomic that I highly recommend.
Giavere Print
August 1st, 2013Our colorist, Naty Baaklini, has a wonderful surprise for all of you. She has created a beautiful painting of Giavere in her unicorn aspect. Thank you, Naty!
This print will be available at Otakon next week in the Artist Alley. It will also take its place on our Almanac entry for Giavere.
Almanac – Onyara Falls
June 20th, 2013This week’s Almanac entry is the Onyara Falls. This set of three waterfalls drains the Upper Country of Everique and is one of the most majestic natural wonders in all of Corthis. Naturally, any place like this is bound to have a few legends associated with it. And maybe a manitou or three.
I leave town tomorrow for vacation and a trip to England! Woooooo. Diane and Brittany will be filling in for me. The pages for the vignette are all done so they should go up on schedule. However, this is the last Almanac entry until July 12. Diane has volunteered to prepare something special for you while I’m away. I’m not sure what it is, but there was a lot of cackling.
Almanac – Thaust
June 13th, 2013This week’s Almanac entry returns to our Mythic Beings with Thaust, the great spirit of glory, ambition, and conflict as well as the Patron of Morante. He is the greatest rival to Giavere, and the Lion and the Unicorn have tangled many times since the rise of the great spirits.
Corthis is a world inspired by the what ifs of history. This rivalry grew from my musing on the nursery rhyme The Lion and the Unicorn.
The lion and the unicorn
Were fighting for the crown
The lion beat the unicorn
All around the town.
Some gave them white bread,
And some gave them brown;
Some gave them plum cake
and drummed them out of town
Almanac – The Quintrivium
June 6th, 2013I’m sorry to pull you away from the lovely art of Julie Wright, but I have the final installment of the Enlightened Studies. It’s the Quintrivium – the most advanced subjects of philosophy. Stare into the paradoxes of infinity with Physics, determine the origin of Corthis with Metaphysics, bargain with Ressurrectionists with Medicine, explore the true nature of the Great Spirits with Theology, and experiment with the fabric of reality with Alchemy.
