Almanac – Governor General
November 15th, 2012This week’s almanac entry is the Governor General of Aradie. This is the position the Vivienne’s father holds (and will continue to hold thanks to Vivienne). The position is influential in the colonies but most governors see it as a stepping stone to bigger and better things back in Japethe. I still haven’t have a chance to sort through the pictures yet. I’ll try to have that done before Thanksgiving next week.
Almanac – Aileon
November 9th, 2012The pistols that Vivienne and Marguerite are vying for were made by the gunsmiths of Aileon. What is Aileon? Where is Aileon? These answers can be found in today’s Almanac entry. Aileon is an unusual country. It is the only country that does not have a great spirit because their spirit Dama (sometimes called Chance), vanished 50 years ago.
Diane and Brittany will be attending Anime USA and representing Snow by Night since I’m down in Florida with family. If you’re attending, come by and say hello and meet the spunky part of the Snow by Night team.
Almanac – Jacqueline de Tilly
November 1st, 2012This week’s almanac entry is Jacqueline de Tilly. She’s Vivienne’s lady-in-waiting, aide-de-camp, co-conspirator, friend, and advisor. She’s got a keen eye and a sharp wit. It’s always the quiet ones who are the most dangerous.
Brittany and I are off to Nekocon tomorrow morning. With the hurricane rolling through, this one snuck up on me. We’ll be there with books, prints, and buttons. Come by and say hello.
Almanac – Light Cavalry
October 25th, 2012This week’s Almanac entry is the Light Cavalry of Saronne. I wrote this section a while ago, but a question by a commenter earlier this week brought the issue of women in the military to my attention again. While men would still dominate most of warfare, I wanted a role for women in the Japethic military to reflect the strong role women play in Saronnan society. Their patron goddess Giavere is a goddess, after all.
All right, I might have been influenced by Émilie Dequenne as Marianne in Brotherhood of the Wolf.
Almanac – Jean-Henri de Carailles
October 19th, 2012This week’s almanac entry is Jean-Henri de Carailles, also known as Vivienne’s pop. He’s the Governor General of Aradie, which makes him one of the most powerful men in the colony. Unfortunately, that might not count for all that much back in Saronne.

Almanac – Gambling Hells
October 11th, 2012Thank you all so much for the feedback. I’m going to discuss with Naty and Brittany what we should do, but I’m seeing a strong preference for fan art, concept art, and almanac entries. I am considering making the pencils the vote incentive on Top Web Comic for future pages. Which would y’all (Yeah, I’m southern. English needs a plural form of you.) prefer? A preview panel of the next page or Britt’s pencils of the current page, complete with her commentary?
Speaking of Almanac entries, with the reappearance of Laurent I wanted to talk a bit more about gambling hells, since he is a frequent denizen. They’re dens of iniquity, even more so than the saloons like the Harp & Trumpet.
Almanac – Alchemical Substances
October 4th, 2012The death-flu continues its rampage through Snow by Night. So no page today. Instead, I’ve got two new entries in the Alchemical Compounds — Arboreal Acid and Phoenix Oil. These two items appeared in Chapters 1 and 2, but never got an entry in the Almanac (for shame, Eric!). I also asked Diane to add in pictures of the items in action in the comic.

September 27th, 2012The Sun-in-Splendor is this week’s almanac entry. This powerful manitou is the spirit of summer and the equal to Father Winter. Snow-by-Night has good reason to be afraid of this careless fire spirit.
