Almanac – Crown-of-Bone
April 30th, 2015This week’s Almanac entry is Crown-of-Bone. Alas, poor Crown. He managed two pages before meeting his end at the hands of the firebird. He was a messenger spirit who would carry souls who were lost to the hills and cast them into the sky so that they would find their way to the afterlife.
Reverie Comics is going to AwesomeCon! That’s May 29-31 in Washington DC. Come see Snow by Night, Amya, Ava’s Demon, Final Arcanum, Ianua, and Valkyrie Squadron. We’ll also be joined by Cari Corene, the artist for A Berry from the Sun.
Almanac – Plays-in-Waves
April 23rd, 2015This week’s Almanac entry is Plays-in-Waves, the seal manitou. She’s a playful water spirit who is has an affinity with a spirit dancer from the Maniquois nation. She’s also one of the leading manitou in A Berry from the Sun.
Speaking of the vignette, I adjusted the point size on the pages. Some of the later pages have a lot of text on them and the text size was becoming overwhelming. So I’ve adjusted it down a bit.
Tomorrow is RavenCon. Hope to see you there!
Almanac – Elakanois
April 16th, 2015This week’s Almanac entry is the Elakanois. They are the closest ally of Aradie among the native nations and the ones who have suffered the most as a result of the diseases brought by the colonists. In this world, diseases are caused by malignant spirits.
RavenCon is next weekend. This is our first Sci-fi/Fantasy convention. I’m really excited to try out this type of show and RavenCon comes highly recommended. I’m looking forward to it as our first convention of the year.
Cast Update — Singing Jay
April 9th, 2015Today’s Almanac entry is a cast update — Singing Jay! He’s the Elakanois storyteller introduced waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in Feathers & Frost. He’s referenced heavily in the last pages of Chapter 10.
The Kickstarter for Volume 2 is a success! We did it! Thank you to all our backers. There’s 15 minutes left on the timer. You can still hop in and reap the rewards. Just $77 more and we’ll unlock the offline Almanac as a stretch goal. CLICK HERE TO SUPPORT OUR KICKSTARTER.
And a heads up! RavenCon is coming up on April 24-26 in Richmond, Virginia. It’s our first convention of the year. Diane and I will be attending.
Almanac – Nugget-Sleeping-Soundly
April 2nd, 2015This week’s Almanac entry is Nugget-Sleeping-Soundly. The bunny manitou made an appearance in the progress bar for Snow by Night’s Kickstarter campaign. He’s too cute not to add to our Almanac. Speaking of which, we’re in the final week of the Kickstarter campaign. We broke $7,000. We just need a little bit more of a push, and we’ll make our goal. Please help us get there. We’d love to have your support.
I also wanted to plug a few other Kickstarters that I’ve run across and backed. The first is Heart of Time, which is a light hearted romp of misadventures through time.
Almanac – Odaneois
March 26th, 2015This week’s Almanac are the Odaneois, the vanished nation of the Grande Vire. I’m playing a bit with history on this one. The Odaneois are based loosely (very loosely) on the the Stadacona. d’Artais is a conflation of Cartier and de Champlain. The original settlement at what would because Québec failed because of poor relationships with the natives. Poor relations due to the penchant of Europeans to kidnap the locals and force them to act as guides.
Btw, Kickstarter! We’re almost halfway. Oh man, I’ve got some lovely things to share with you in Volume 2 — sketches, maps, background information, and more. My thanks to everyone who has pledged so far. If you haven’t, please consider it. We need your help to get these books funded. The team has put together a selection of great rewards. Check it out!
Almanac – Cabaret
March 19th, 2015What is Mathilde up to in the Harp & Trumpet? Rehearsing for their cabaret show, and Cabaret is the topic of today’s almanac entry.
Instead of pushing my own Kickstarter (I lied. Go see the cuteness of the bunny manitou in the latest update), I’d like to encourage you to check out Liz’s kickstarter campaign for Adrastus. If you like giant robots (and who doesn’t), this is a comic you’ll love. Give it a try.
Almanac – Dama
March 12th, 2015This week’s Almanac is Dama, Great Spirit of Luck. I’ve referenced her a few times in the comic. Since we launched the Kickstarter for Volume 2 this week, I figured I could use all the luck I could get! Speaking of which…
VOLUME 2 KICKSTARTER IS NOW LIVE. Please consider helping us print volumes for Chapters 5-8. We need to raise $9,750 to cover all the costs of printing, shipping, and paying the artists. I feel very strongly that artists should get paid for the work they do. We’ve got some fantastic rewards available. In particular, there are some commissions from great artists who have either work on Snow by Night or are fellow members of Reverie Comics.
