Almanac – Carnaval
March 6th, 2015At the suggestions of one of our commenters, I’ve turned my attention back to the festivals of Aradie for this week’s Almanac entry. This time it’s Carnaval. This winter festival is the highlight of the season for the children and daredevils in town. It was Blaise’s favorite holiday.
Only thing left to do for the Kickstarter campaign is the video. So we’ll be going live with that on Monday. My thanks to Steph, Julie, and Diane for all their assistance with it.
Almanac – Potatoes
February 26th, 2015So with all the discussion of potatoes on Chapter 10, Page 15, I thought I would address potatoes briefly in the Almanac.
The Almanac is a bit short this week because Diane, Steph, Julie, and I are busy working on the Volume 2 Kickstarter for Snow by Night. We’re hoping to have it launch in early March. Wait, that’s next week? Eek! I need to work faster!
Almanac – Arctic
February 20th, 2015It’s pretty cold here tonight. Around -14 Celsius as this “Polar Vortex” passes overhead. This got me thinking about the arctic so that’s our Almanac entry tonight – the Arctic Zone!
This page in the Almanac has only had the Torrid Zone on it for a while. We need some cold balance. So come learn about the wonders of the frigid north of Ultima Thule, where the plants are tiny, the bears are hungry, and explorers look mighty tasty. If you reach the North Pole, you can achieve immortality by staying there all year. I suppose you could chance it and leave one night a year if you had an extremely important obligation.
Almanac – Garthmoor
February 13th, 2015Since Cienan showed up for a bit, I decided to talk about Cienan’s homeland of Garthmoor in the Almanac. Its lands are invaded. Its poets are often quoted. There’s a little something for the warmonger and the pacifist.
This one took a bit to write, which is why it’s so late. I spent way too much time deciding if I liked Garthans or Garthmans more. I like the sound of Garthman, but it sounds like they’re all dudes. The m sound was a nod to the moor part of the rootword. I could go with Garthmoorans. Then it sounds like an insult. Amy is suggesting Garthmoormans. I think she’s teasing me.
Almanac – Great Spirits
February 5th, 2015There’s been a lot of discussion in the comments about the Great Spirits so they are the subject of today’s Almanac entry. I envisioned them as sort of a baroque version of the Hellenic Olympians. Instead of being the patrons of city states, they were now the patrons of entire nations. Now I need to go rewatch the Epic Rap Battles of History match of Zeus v. Thor.
Almanac – Manes
January 29th, 2015Today’s Almanac entry is Manes. These are the vanished lesser spirits of Japathe. What has become of them? Why did they seemingly slip away? The philosophers have no answers to these questions. And so I leave the theorizing to you, the readers.
Almanac – Travois
January 23rd, 2015Hi gang. I’m back, and I think I’m on the mend. My nose has finally stopped running and I’m no longer sleeping 16 hours a day. Anyway, I was conscious enough to letter a couple pages and write the almanac entry. This week’s entry is the Travois! My choice may have had a lot to do with me feeling like Blaise and wanting to be dragged everywhere.
Have a great weekend, everyone. I’ll see you all for Monday’s update when we see how Jassart answers Viv’s question. I see several of you have thoughts on that.
Almanac – Evensong Bard
January 15th, 2015Diane here, reporting in for duty while Eric’s out of town. Today’s almanac entry is Evensong Bard, the manitou of autumn. He’s a gentle, thoughtful spirit of reward and plenty. With this entry, the spirits of the seasons are complete in the almanac. Not to worry – there are more manitou still to appear in our story…
Come back on Monday to find out what Jassart and the rest of the Sherbourg cast are up to! You can sneak a peek at Julie’s thumbnails by voting on Top Web Comics, and I’ll give you one extra special sneak peek by quoting a line from the coming page: “I’m not at liberty to say.”
