Art Contest

January 17th, 2013

Hello, everyone! Diane here, covering for Eric and Brittany while they’re making the long trek through awful traffic towards our next convention. Ohayocon is the shining light at the end of the tunnel to celebrate once they arrive around midnight! If you’re attending, please stop by and pester them both for me. They need a good pesterin’.

Instead of the typical Almanac update, tonight we bring you news of our first official Art Contest! Check out all the details here.

We’re offering cash prizes for the top 8 finalists, and submissions are open until March 1st. Even if you aren’t interested or able to enter, please tell your friends! Any medium is welcome, so long as we can clearly tell the piece of art has to do with Snow by Night. Voting will open on March 4th and will be decided by popular vote throughout the week, eliminating the pool of entries until we reach our top finalist. (There can be only one! /cue dramatic music)

If you have any questions or comments, feel free to post them here or send us an e-mail at artcontest@snowbynight.com. Best of luck to you all! I can’t wait to see what comes our way!

Chapter 5 Page 13

October 9th, 2012

Almanac Reference: Belle

Mathilde saves the boy’s bacon in Chapter 5 Page 13. Or does she….Dun, dun, DUUUUN! Laurent is up to something, I know it! I don’t like his shifty eyes….

Hi. It’s Naty. I’m sick and a wee bit delirious. You may have heard I have Mono. Some of you are cringing in sympathy, and some of you are scratching your heads wondering what the big deal is.
Mono is a virus, which means I can’t do anything but rest and drink fluids during it’s unfortunately long run time of 4-6 weeks. Its most notorious and lingering symptoms after the fever, aches, chills, and nausea…..ugh nausea….are fatigue and loss of appetite. The week we went off the air I was so nauseated I couldn’t sleep. Anti-nausea pills are MAGIC. Not that I want to eat anything, but I could if I wanted to now. But I’m just too tired to eat. I’m too tired to do anything. I am so incredibly tired, you guys, I went to the store for toiletry essentials and it felt like I hiked up a mountain to get there. The few items in my hand basket felt like lead weights and I wasn’t entirely sure I was going to be able to leave the store with them without assistance. Everyday things are a struggle, including coloring Snow by Night. Now that my fever is gone and I have magic pills to ward of the nausea, I’m trying to color again, but I feel like a turtle. So I ask on behalf of the team for everyone to please be patient with us while I recover from Mono. I will do my best to meet our usual update schedule, but If I can’t do it, I just can’t do it.

As an aside, I totally win for worst Con Crud this year because the incubation time for Mono is long and because all my troubles started exactly on Oct 1st means I picked it up at Dragon Con. Luuulz.

Diane here, popping in to add a few notes. First off, I’m so excited for the build up that’s happening on this page… You can tell we’re headed somewhere with Laurent (and that he wasn’t just a joke!). To see where exactly the boys are headed, check out our sneak peek at Top Web Comics.

Because of Naty’s sickness, I’d like to extend an offer to our readers asking for more fanart! We’re always happy to see it, and in the event that we can’t post a page, we really like having something to show you, regardless.

I also want to pose a question to you. If we can’t get a colored page done in time, would you prefer to see filler art (like sketches, or some of the bonus art we include in the chapter books), almanac entries, or simply the inked version of the pages, with the colored pages to be added as Naty completes them? Let us know in the comments!

New Fan Art

September 20th, 2012

Hi everyone, Diane here! Instead of Eric’s usual Almanac update, today we have a new piece of fan art to add to the Extras page. Please take a look at the lovely piece by Christina Major here. You guys have no idea how giddy it makes me to see fan art of my favorite girl – though Snow-by-Night has been creepin’ up on that award. We’ll see if you agree in the coming pages.

Brittany and Eric are off to Intervention this weekend without me, so if you see them there, feel free to stop by and say hello, pick up our book, commission Brittany, or take them both to task for leaving me behind. If you can’t make it to the con, you can always help support Snow by Night by voting for us on Top Web Comics. We always have some kind of sneak peek of the next page up for you, so please vote daily!

Law of the Riverside Update

September 13th, 2012

Hello again! This is late night Diane, brought to you by the untold joys and horrors of the internet, and also random statements.

We’ve been hard at work reviewing our story and the constructive criticism that our readers bring us. In light of some concerns about Ald’s flashbacks not being clear enough, Naty and Eric have redone Chapter 3’s vignette, Law of the Riverside, for tonight’s update. Please take a look and let us know what you think!

Chapter 5 Page 6

September 9th, 2012

Almanac References: Howling Jay, Manitou

Hello, everyone! Diane here to bring you Chapter 5 Page 6, in which Mathilde is sly, Blaise is hopeless, and Jassart just gives up. This is another page where the script had me cracking up as I read through it, and Britt does a great job of illustrating what we called “Shoulder Jassart”. I feel bad for Blaise. He gets a Shoulder Jassart instead of the usual Shoulder Angel/Devil. To get a sneak peek at Mathilde’s sneak peek of Snow-by-Night, vote for us on Top Web Comics!

Almanac – Pistols

August 17th, 2012

Journal entries are great, if you remember to do them. I completely spaced on it so this morning was a shock and scramble with lots of Muppet-like flailing. I sometimes wonder if I’d remember my name if people didn’t call me it all the time >_<; Oi Vey.

Anyways, Things have been a bit crazy but we’re still gearing up for Chapter 5. This one should be a lot of fun! A bit more action and some consequences for past action. Or maybe actions? Guess you gotta stay tuned to find out. C:

Thanks again to all who stop by and read. And a special thanks to those who comment! It means a lot to us, even when it’s a critique! It means the world to know you took the time to comment, so thanks!

Again, sorry this is so short. Life distracted me and I fell short this week on my duties >__<;; Arg!

~Britt

Diane’s note: It’s okay Britt, both Eric AND I forgot about the update too! Whoops. That’s a lot of memory loss right there. Sorry about the confusion, and I hope you enjoy Eric’s update to our Alamanc entry under Weapons.

Almanac – Malsum

July 12th, 2012

Honestly, that Eric – always running off to conventions without me! Next time I’ll sneak into his trunk with my pet monkey. That’ll show him.

Anyway, while he’s at Connecticon this weekend, I’ll be handling today’s Almanac update in the Mythic Beings chapter of People. As some of you predicted, our entry focuses on Malsum, a manitou that Snow-by-Night instinctively fears.

What I want to know is where all the happy manitou are. Can our next Almanac update have the manitou of rainbows, or maybe the manitou of group hugs?

Chapter 4 Page 25

July 8th, 2012

Almanac References: Malsum, My Eye

Chapter 4 Page 25 is up! Snow-by-Night finds a problem in Jassart’s perfect plan. Nevermind that she’s the one causing the problem.

To see exactly what Snow-by-Night is so afraid of, please vote for us on Top Web Comics!

I love Jassart’s line on this page. “Oh, stab me in the eye.” I’ve been there, Jassart. Those spirits are always getting in the way of proper planning with their unpredictable phobias!

On an unrelated and personal note, my friend is no longer in the hospital, and he will be able to fully recover from the car accident he was in, though he’ll be stuck in a wheelchair for a while. Thanks again for understanding my delays with the site updates while I was with him.
