It’s a night at the opera on Chapter 6 Page 15. Brittany and Naty outdid themselves bringing an art form that is the height of baroque culture to the page. A couple faces we haven’t seen in a while are appearing on the next page. Vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics to get a peek at who they are.
Congratulations to Laura Hollingsworth! She is the winner of our 2013 Art Contest. She emerged the victor from the championship round against Amasugiru, who is our second place winner. I’ll be in touch this week to discuss your prizes. You two certainly deserve them. Great work! My thanks to all of our entrants. I was impressed by every submission and am honored that you spend so much time and talent illustrating our characters. Thank you so much. All the submissions will be going on our Extras page on Wednesday.
Diane has finished the last of the chibis for us. Lovely Liaze joins the chibi team with an invitation to shop at our Store. You can find it at the top of the page where the Art Contest banner link was. We have a sale going on now. Buy all the books of Volume 1 and the last book is half off.
Almanac – Confectionery
April 4th, 2013It’s time for another sweet almanac entry. And I mean that literally because our subject is confectionery. They haven’t learned to Dutch-process chocolate in the early 18th century so getting hard chocolate candies isn’t possible. Instead, they make do with a variety of nuts, fruits, and sugar. I make sugarplums every year for Christmas, and they are a fantastic treat. The sugar, honey, and fruit create a taste that blossoms in your mouth as you eat it. Incredibly delicious.
Comfits intrigue me. These hard candies were common on the tables of kings and queens in the 18th century and were a status symbol because they were so time consuming to make. Thanks to technology, this treat of the nobility is now available to everyone. For the comfit is the ancestor of the M&M. So the candy of kings can now be found in nearly every vending machine in the country and is available for the cost of your pocket change.
We live in an age of miracle and wonder.
Only a few more days left in our Art Contest. Laura has a good lead but Amasugiru can easily catch up. Voting closes at midnight on Saturday so vote today.

Questing is delicious! At least Blaise thinks so in Chapter 6 Page 14. Next week, we are off to the opera. To see a preview of the opera, vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics.
Diane has been populating the site with chibis. We have a new chibi as our permanent link to the TWC voting gateway for Snow by Night. We also have icons for beginning the tale and finding a page. We went with the chibis to create an art break between the characters in the novel and our graphic designs for the web page.
Our final round in the Art Contest is in full swing and the voting is so close. Make your voice heard today (and everyday) until Saturday. Also, I have sent emails to all the contestants thanking them for their entry and following up on the prizes. If you did not receive an email from me, please let me know.
Fan Art – Will Friday
March 31st, 2013No page update today as we were all busy with the Easter holiday. Instead, we have this lovely piece of fan art created by Will Friday. Will missed our deadline for the Art Contest, and based on the quality of the art, the other competitors should consider themselves lucky. Check out Will’s amazing portfolio.
Our Art Contest enters its final week. Our thanks to Shawna and Cristina. Your art was amazing and you gave our two finalists a solid challenge. And congratulations to Laura Hollingsworth and Amasugiru. They are our finalists. You can vote daily from now until Saturday night. The winner of this round is our victor of the entire art contest!
My apologies. I was supposed to get in touch with the contestants who placed in the earlier rounds last week, but life got away from me. I’ll be in touch this week. Hold tight. I haven’t forgotten about you.
Almanac – Claude Amaury
March 28th, 2013Today’s Almanac update is Claude Amaury, Bertrande’s journeyman. He can now be found under Merchants in the Almanac and in the Cast directory. Also, as you can see, we now have a fancy graphic for when we upload a new almanac entry. If you click on it, it will take you to the permanent home of the entry in the Almanac.
Only two more days to vote in the semi-finals of the Art Contest. I’m so impressed with all four entries. Vote today for your favorite.
Lastly, this Monday is Easter Monday, which is a holiday for me. We won’t be uploading a new page on Monday. Instead, I have a beautiful piece of fan art done by Will Friday as a way to kick off the final round of the Art Contest.

Oh, the pink. It hurts the eyes. Snow-by-Night dresses in the latest Saronnan fashions in Chapter 6 Page 13. To see what Blaise brings to the party, vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comic!
Our Art Contest is rolling along. The support for our four finalists has been amazing. And they certainly deserve it. They are four talented artists. For those who have dropped out of the competition, fret not! They are not gone forever. We’ll be creating an 2013 Art Contest section on our Extras page. We’ll be placing all the art there, along with the artist’s names and links to their portfolios.
Oh, our Zenkaikon convention report is up. It’s in the form of a photo album on our Facebook page.

Diane and I just got back from Zenkaikon. It was a fun little convention in Pennsylvania. I’ll get a con report up by Wednesday.
Mathilde helps Snow-by-Night pick a dress to wear for the opera on Chapter 6 Page 12. What do you wear for a night on the town when you’re a manitou? See a sneak peek by voting for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics.
So many votes in our Art Contest. The competition was really fierce and all the contenders are incredibly talented. I want to thank Minuiko, Rein Eire, Melissa Teo, and Jesse Bechtold for entering. I’ll be in touch later this week about your prizes. And congratulations to Laura Hollingsworth, Cristina Marin, Amasugiru, and Shawna Alkira! They are now in our Final Four. Vote for your favorite daily to get them into the championship next round.
Fan Art – Ben Thornton
March 21st, 2013This week’s Almanac entry was supposed to be the character description for Claude, Bertrande’s assistant. Unfortunately, time got away from me, and I didn’t get a chance to get it written. A big contributor to that was trying to get a program layout for a theatre production in under four hours. Good times, but we got it done.
To the rescue comes Ben Thornton. He was working on a submission for our Art Contest but wasn’t done in time. So instead, he submitted it as fan art. Go check it out and then take a look at his portfolio. Thank you, Ben!
Speaking of our the Art Contest, there’s still two days left in the voting. Some of the contests are really close. So remember to vote for your favorites. Although how do you choose? They’re all excellently done.
Diane and I are heading to Zenkaikon tomorrow morning. Come and see us in the Artist Alley if you’re going.
