Chapter 12 Page 5
December 14th, 2015Defiant Elk makes a realization that will change the course of the story on Chapter 12 Page 5. Blaise has an ally in his quest. It might not be the one he wants, but it’s the one he’s going to get.
Scene shift with Wednesday’s page. To see who is the focus of the next scene, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics. After that, I’m taking a two-week break for the holidays, starting Dec. 21. I’ll be back with a new page on Jan. 4.
Chapter 12 Page 4
December 9th, 2015Defiant Elk despairs at saving his nation on Chapter 12 Page 4. He and the Kanonsionni are trapped by the frontier trade. If they turn their back on the goods offered by the colonists, they are weaker than their rivals. If they trade for them, they have to give away a part of themselves.
In the real world, the council fires have not faded away entirely. The nations that I’m drawing inspiration from still exist. History has not been kind to them, due to our nation’s policies and a legacy of indifference and hostility. If you want to read about how the Iroquois handled the issues that Elk is grappling with, I recommend Iroquois Diplomacy on the Early American Frontier by Timothy Shannon.

Chapter 12 Page 3
December 7th, 2015Defiant Elk reveals his mind to Blaise on Chapter 12 Page 3. The cave is Elk’s sanctum, and I’m using it as a metaphor. So Blaise gets to hear Elk’s innermost thoughts, and Elk has a LOT on his mind. Change always brings great upheaval, and the frontier is a harsh place with the future of nations at stake. To see one of the things that weights heavily on Elk’s mind, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics.
Chapter 12 Page 2
December 3rd, 2015The threat of being buried beneath a zillion feet of snow stays Defiant Elk’s hand on Page 2 of Chapter 12. Instead, Blaise finds himself in Elk’s sanctum both physically and emotionally. This is one of my favorite scenes so far. I hope you like it.

Chapter 12 Page 1
November 29th, 2015Welcome back, everyone. I hope you had a good holiday or a nice weekend if you didn’t celebrate Thanksgiving. We begin with a splashy cover on Page 1 of Chapter 12 The Vault. So many hints on that cover. We’ll be getting to some nightwork and lots and lots of secrets in this chapter.
But first we have to go see what’s up with Blaise and Defiant Elk. To see a preview of how that’s going, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics.
The Tree of War Page 12
November 23rd, 2015The Peacemaker returns to the Kahne’aké on Page 12 of The Peacemaker and the Tree of War. Did he die from the fall and get better? Did he just vanish into the river and never died at all? The legend is unclear, but he met the requirements of the test the Kahne’aké laid out for him. But the Tree of War is always growing, even as we cut it back. The Wisdom is right to be worried.
My thanks to Kristen Kemper who jumped on this vignette at the last moment and met a very demanding update schedule. She was essentially finishing a page every 3 days. Fantastic job, Kristen. Good luck with your webcomic, Sylvania, and I’m hoping to bring you back to work on future vignettes.
No update this Wednesday or Friday due to Thanksgiving. Chapter 12 The Vault begins on Monday, November 30. We’re going back to where we left Blaise and Defiant Elk to start with, but the bulk of the chapter involves Jassart and Vivienne. Have a great holiday everyone, and I’ll see you next week!
The Tree of War Page 11
November 18th, 2015The Peacemaker disappears without a trace into the waters below on Page 11 of The Peacemaker and the Tree of War. That sure ended the story abruptly. Just kidding! We’ll have another page illustrated by the talented Kristin Kemper next week to wrap up this vignette before Thanksgiving.
Speaking of Thanksgiving, the Washington Post published an article on How to Eat Like a Native American complete with recipes!
The Tree of War Page 10
November 16th, 2015The Peacemaker breaks the Tree of War with terrible consequences on Page 10 of the Peacemaker and Tree of War. Art by Kristen Kemper.
My heart goes out to all those in Paris after the terrible attacks there. My thoughts and prayers are with you. May we all cut down the Tree of War that grows in our own time.
