The Tree of War Page 9
November 11th, 2015No words; just a statement on Page 9 of the Tree of War by guest artist Kristin Kemper.
We’re slowly getting back onto schedule. I’ll have an Almanac update this Friday. This week is all maps, maps, and more maps. Page 7 of Chapter 12 will show maps of Everique and Japethe so now I have to draw them. I’ve been using How to Draw Fantasy Art & RPG Maps by D&D cartographer (among other things) Jared Blando. It’s been very helpful.

November 9th, 2015Steph and I are back from Nekocon and with a new page from Kristin Kemper! Our thanks to everyone who stopped by the table at our last convention of the year. We had a wonderful time. I particularly enjoyed being part of the “What’s New, NekoCat?” panel, where I had to summarize recent anime based on only seeing the trailer. The results were predictably silly.
Words… words… words. They have no effect on the sachem of the Kahne’aké on Page 8 of The Peacemaker and the Tree of War. They demand action to prove the weight of the Peacemaker’s words.

November 5th, 2015Behold the Tree of War with all of it twisted glory on Page 7 of The Tree of War by Kristin Kemper.
I’m off to NekoCon. Monday’s update will be late on Monday as I’ll be driving back on Sunday night. Have a great weekend everyone.
The Tree of War Page 6
November 2nd, 2015Nothing underscores a point like lightning. As proved by Page 6 of The Tree of War by Kristin Kemper.
Nekocon is this Friday so no Almanac. The second page for this week will be going up Thursday morning.
November is Native American Heritage Month. The Smithsonian is having a lot of awesome events.
The Tree of War Page 5
October 30th, 2015The Peacemaker faces a lethal test put forward by the Kahne’aké on Page 5 of The Peacemaker and the Tree of War.
While reading several versions of the Haundenosaunee legend that inspired this vignette, I was wondering why they gave a suicidal test. And I think the answer is to show bravery in the face of death. The people followed several customs in this era where courage was valued more than life. Courage in the face of danger was widely respected even if the cause was hopeless and death the inevitable end. So the sachem at this point in the story is saying “Put up, or shut up.” The Peacemaker chose to Put Up when everyone expected him to Shut Up. This wins him a lot of integrity points and allows him to take control of the situation.
Next weekend, Steph and I will be at one of my favorite conventions of the year — Nekocon! I do so love this convention. It’s the perfect size, easy to get to, and the attendees are fantastic. We’ll be bringing the recently released Volume 2 books as well as the Volume 1 chapter books. Come see us!
The Tree of War Page 4
October 26th, 2015The Peacemaker addresses the elders of the Kahne’aké on Page 4 of The Peacemaker and the Tree of War. They respond by giving him an impossible task.
My wife’s uncle passed away last week. She’s gone to Nebraska for the funeral. I’m handling everything at home so the next page update will be on Friday. No Almanac entry this week.
The Tree of War Page 3
October 23rd, 2015Here’s Page 3 of The Peacemaker and the Tree of War. My apologies for it being a little later than normal. We’re still trying to get ahead of the schedule. Kristin is feeling much better. Just in time to draw page 4.
Have a great weekend everyone!
The Peacemaker and the Tree of War Page 2
October 19th, 2015Distant Smoke begins her tale by setting the scene on Page 2 of The Peacemaker and the Tree of War. The Kanonsionni were not always the great confederation that they have become. It was a trying and difficult time for the Kahne’aké.
I still don’t have an incentive yet for Top Web Comics. Kristin is drawing as fast as she can to keep us up to schedule. But you can always vote for us anyway and read Kristin’s webcomic Sylvania as a reward!
