Vote on TWC for a sneak peek preview!

Upcoming Events

Vivienne leads her cavalry forces on a surprise attack on the flank of the Morantine battery on Engagement on Vineyard Hill Page 2. To see a preview of the attack on the battery from page 3, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics.

Vivienne’s assault is not in keeping with the conventions of Japethan warfare. Instead, shes’s drawing from the irregular war that was common on the American (and therefore Everique) frontier. The French were excellent at it during the many conflicts up to and including the French and Indian War. Vivienne and her fellow colonists from Aradie are using those tactics as well. We’ll have to see if her fellow officers from Saronne appreciate her resourcefulness.

NekoCon is this weekend. Diane, Julie, and I head down on Friday. Because of this convention, I may not be done lettering Monday’s page by Sunday. If that happens, I’ll be uploading a special treat instead. Many of you asked for it — a painterly ad of Vivienne. Julie did a terrific job with her.

Tonight we are beginning the Chapter 9 vignette Engagement on Vineyard Hill, illustrated by Natalie Baaklini. Naty is the colorist for the main story of Snow by Night. She also draws fantastic horses. She’s even done this incredible drawing of Giavere. This vignette features Vivienne and Jacqueline as cavalry officers, making Naty the perfect artist for it.

To see a glorious shot of Lieutenant Sylvine, commander of the second squadron of the 1st Aradie Light Cavalry, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics.

This weekend is Nekocon! Diane and I will be there with books, prints, and buttons. Also, I’ll be sitting on some panels about comics and fantasy writing.

Birds of a Feather Page 10

April 29th, 2014

The boys arrange for the sale of the smuggled brandy on Birds of a Feather page 10. And look who’s hip deep in the purchase of all those illegal spirits. She also has an eye for talent and likes what she sees in the blond newcomer.

We’re at the end of Volume 2 so there aren’t any preview images to share with you as a vote incentive. But if you like Snow by Night, please consider voting for us on Top Web Comics.

As I announced on Monday, Snow by Night will be taking a hiatus until June 30. We’ll be picking up with Chapter 9 at that time. Brittany is heading off to seek new horizons (check out her Etsy Store!) so Julie Wright is joining our team as line artist. Naty remains our colorist.

Starting next Monday, we’ll be upload concept sketches that Julie has created for us. Check back with us on Mondays and Wednesdays during the hiatus to see what great things are coming at the end of June.

Birds of a Feather Page 9

April 27th, 2014

Blaise and Jassart wheel their ill-gotten gains through Sherbourg on Birds of a Feather Page 9. However, Ald smells a rat.

To see the fantastic ultry-sultry look that Shazzbaa drew for Mathilde for the next page, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics.

The last page of the vignette is this Wednesday. This concludes Volume 2 of Snow by Night. I have several important announcements regarding the future of Snow by Night. First, after the vignette Snow by Night will be going on hiatus until Monday June 30. During that time, we will not be posting pages or almanac updates, but we will be posting design work as discussed below.

Second, my line artist Brittany Michel is leaving Snow by Night at the end of Volume 2 to pursue other artistic opportunities. I want to thank Brittany for all her contributions to Snow by Night. I’ve loved having her on the project, and she is a wonderful woman to work with. I wish her all the best in the future. She has started up her own studio at Bad Carrot Studios or you can find her on her Facebook page as well. Head over there to see some of the neat pieces she’s creating. She’s been working on her Gallifreyan for you Dr. Who fans.

This brings me to my third  announcement. The new line artist for Volume 3 is incredibly talented Julie Wright. You may know her from the Chapter 6 vignette, Winter Fantasy. She is also the colorist of The Dreamer and the creator of Ianua. Julie is currently working on the character designs for Volume 3. I’ll be posting some of her design work during the hiatus. So check back in with us to see the exciting new ideas that Julie has in mind for us.

My last announcement — when we come back from hiatus, the website will be getting a new look. I’ve been talking to my web design brain trust about ways to make our webpage more interesting and engaging. They’ve got a lot of ideas that we’ll be implementing.

Thank you all for joining me on this ride so far. I’ve got lots more to share. When we return from hiatus, the story will pick up with Blaise and what happens after that fateful night at the laboratory. We’re just getting started.

Birds of a Feather Page 8

April 22nd, 2014

Jassart and Blaise find Henriette’s hidden cache of brandy on Birds of a Feather page 8. I added that a couple weeks ago to the almanac. There is a method to my madness. Jassart finds a little something for himself in addition to the brandy. To see a hint of what hurdles the boys have to face next, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics.

Diane and I had a great time at AwesomeCon. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth. We met a lot of great people, especially families and first-time con goers. We’re definitely attending next year.

I’m pleased to announce that the Roses of Alchemy prints are now in the Snow by Night store. These 4″x6″ prints each feature one of the 8 roses of alchemy with art by Stephanie Stober. They came out beautifully.

Birds of a Feather Page 7

April 15th, 2014

Jassart finds the secret door on Birds of a Feather page 7. No dwarves and their seamless stone doors in Sherbourg, but a little bit of wood moulding can hide a lot. To see what’s in the hidden cache, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics.

Oh, we will have an update for the Almanac this Friday after all. A great artist friend of mine, Jose Ortiz, did a fantastic ouroboros for me. We’ll be including that into the alchemy page.

AwesomeCon is this weekend. Snow by Night is at booth 347. We’re bringing something new this time — a set of 8 prints titled the Roses of Alchemy. Each of the eight roses displays a different color rose and its symbolic meaning in alchemy. I’ll be posting previews on the Snow by Night facebook page.

Birds of a Feather Page 6

April 13th, 2014

Jassart ventures into cellar to look for Henriette’s hidden cache on Birds of a Feather page 6. He gives the cellar a tossing of a lifetime. To see how well all this searching goes for Jassart, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics.

The Art Contest concluded on Saturday night, and we have a winner. Congratulations to Laura Chilson for her fine piece of Blaise with the alchemical seal. My thanks to all the artists who submitted pieces to our art contest. I’ll be in touch this week regarding the prizes. Also, my thanks to everyone who voted. We’ll be moving all the submissions over to our Extras page this week.

This weekend is AwesomeCon! I’ll be there at booth 347. I’m participating in the World Building panel on Friday at 4 p.m. and Creative Collaborations on Sunday at 2 p.m. We’ll be hanging out next to our good friends Julie and Amanda of Ianua. Because I will be at Awesomecon, there is no Almanac entry this Friday. Also, this coming Sunday is Easter and we will not be posting a page update next Monday.

Birds of a Feather Page 5

April 8th, 2014

Blaise and Jassart toss Henriette’s house and workshop in Birds of a Feather page 5. Jassart then heads down to the basement. To see what he finds there, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics.

The championship round of the Art Contest ends this Saturday. Two excellent submissions await your consideration. Vote for your favorite. You can vote once a day so if you like them both you can vote for one on one day and the other the next day.

Snow by Night will be at AwesomeCon on April 18-20. We’re sharing an endcap with Julie and Amanda of Ianua at Booth 347. I’m hoping to have some new goodies available there. Hopefully, the print run will be done on time.
