New Almanac Page Format
June 19th, 2011Hi, everyone, Diane here! Today’s update to the Almanac is not in the form of a new entry, but rather a new format that I’ve been working on for a while. Now that I have a month of summer break, I will (hopefully) be bringing a few more interesting site updates.
Eric and I were brainstorming how best to organize the Almanac after deciding our old system just wasn’t going to work. I think this one works out much better, but please let me know what you think! Thanks!
Creator Pictures
May 29th, 2011Instead of an almanac entry, this week I’m uploading creator pictures for the Snow by Night team. Now you can see artistic interpretations of what we may look like if we were living in Sherbourg in 1686. Brittany has done a fantastic job with them. Thank you, Brit!
Edit from the Webmaster, Diane:
Hi everyone! I don’t normally pop in on Eric’s Journal posts, but hey, he’s at Balticon so I’M in charge now! For today’s update, I’ve uploaded a bunch of new code into the site. The most obvious is that the width of our main content area has expanded, and some images are changing to accommodate that. Please excuse the odd proportions for another day or two while I’m waiting to have access to my desktop – this week’s graphics were brought to you with the power of my cell phone! I promise the quality will greatly improve once I have Photoshop again. Thanks very much for your patience!
Sneak Peeks as Incentives
January 20th, 2011I’m pleased to announce that we’re now offering incentives to vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comic. When you vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comic, you’ll get to see a sneak peek at next week’s page. Even better, I’m going to change the sneak peek on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. That’s three different peeks, so please vote for us early and often. We would love to have your support.
In case you’re wondering how to vote for us on Top Web Comic, We have a lovely graphic link for us. It’s on the sidebar to the right. Just click on it and you’ll be taken to the voting portal. Thanks!
Links Abound
January 14th, 2011One of the new additions to the website is the Links page. I’ve started off with links to five other websites that I highly recommend: LaSalle’s Legacy, Tamuran, The Dreamer, Today Nothing Happened, and Raging Swan. Rather than just post the banner, I’ve added a short personal note explaining why I am recommending it.
I have also created a number of banners to link to Snow by Night. Feel free to use the banners to link back to Snow by Night, and help me spread the word of our tale of colonial fantasy.
Website Refresh
January 5th, 2011As you have probably noticed, the new year brings a new website for Snow by Night. The beautiful revised design is the creation of Diane Hazlett – our new webmaster. When Diane joined my team in December, I asked her to give the website a facelift. I wanted the new site to (1) be accessible by the widest variety of devices possible, (2) load quickly, and (3) be easily to navigate. I think she’s succeeded admirably.
The new story pages are resized for easy loading, and they come with navigational controls at the bottom. She added in a Table of Contents to help readers sort through the different chapters as we continue to add more pages. The new journal page allows for comments without needing to know to click on the headline and I love the color scheme. The Almanac page is now set up for me to add more information about the world. She also added a Links page with links to other websites we enjoy and banners for others to link to us. Even the background got a make-over to a simpler graphic that loads faster and is easier on the eye.
We’ll continue to make more changes to the website as we grow. I’ve got several plans that will keep Diane busy.
