Almanac – Crown-of-Bone
April 30th, 2015This week’s Almanac entry is Crown-of-Bone. Alas, poor Crown. He managed two pages before meeting his end at the hands of the firebird. He was a messenger spirit who would carry souls who were lost to the hills and cast them into the sky so that they would find their way to the afterlife.

April 28th, 2015Fire consumes; ice preserves. On page 4 of A Berry from the Sun, Talons-that-Seek reveals what has transformed him. I love Cari Corene’s representation of the sun as a berry bush. I’m plugging away on Volume 2 things this week and working on the script for Chapter 11. The maps and bonus vignette are in production for the volume. Once I get the script done, I’m going to start picking out all the sketches and other bonus art to include in the chapter. I’ll keep you appraised of things as they continue.

We’re back from RavenCon. It was a fun time, and I got to see a lot of friends that I haven’t gotten to see in a long time.
Our next big convention is AwesomeCon! Woooooo. It’s the last weekend in May and we’ll be attending as guests with the Reverie Crowd. We’ve got an entire island at the convention and eight of our members will be there. I’m really looking forward to it.
Almanac – Plays-in-Waves
April 23rd, 2015This week’s Almanac entry is Plays-in-Waves, the seal manitou. She’s a playful water spirit who is has an affinity with a spirit dancer from the Maniquois nation. She’s also one of the leading manitou in A Berry from the Sun.
Speaking of the vignette, I adjusted the point size on the pages. Some of the later pages have a lot of text on them and the text size was becoming overwhelming. So I’ve adjusted it down a bit.

A Berry from the Sun Page 2
April 21st, 2015The manitou cross the river to face the corrupted eagle on Page 2 of A Berry from the Sun. There are five manitou and five spirit dancers. The spirit dancers are from each of the five nations of the northeastern woodlands of Everique. Again, Cari Corene does a beautiful job painting them.
My favorite is the spirit dancer who is tied to Plays-in-Waves. She’s from the Maniquois nation, which, at the time of this story, occupied the coastline to the east and is crumbling from Japethic incursions. She’s the only spirit dancer they have left, and she is only 8 years old. They sent her to honor the covenant chain between the nations. It is the last action of the nation, as it loses the war of attrition with colonists and disease in the next generation.

A Berry from the Sun Page 1
April 19th, 2015Today we begin the vignette A Berry from the Sun. This is the story that Alays tells to Jassart and Vivienne (and Mathilde), brought to watercolor reality by the incredibly talented Cari Corene. She wanted to illustrate it as if it was a story book. It’s a story about manitou and their adventures. If you were following along the updates to the Kickstarter campaign, you’ll recognize a few of the manitou. Almanac – Elakanois
April 16th, 2015This week’s Almanac entry is the Elakanois. They are the closest ally of Aradie among the native nations and the ones who have suffered the most as a result of the diseases brought by the colonists. In this world, diseases are caused by malignant spirits.
RavenCon is next weekend. This is our first Sci-fi/Fantasy convention. I’m really excited to try out this type of show and RavenCon comes highly recommended. I’m looking forward to it as our first convention of the year.
Chapter 10, Page 29
April 14th, 2015Alays begins her tale for a larger audience than she knows on Chapter 10, Page 29. This is the final page of the chapter and leads directly into the vignette A Berry from the Sun. If you enjoyed Feathers and Frost from Chapter 1, then you’re really going to enjoy this story. The artist is Cari Corene. She is a magnificent watercolor artist.
