Snow by Night

The shadow takes a bite out of Jassart on Chapter 12, Page 22. As many of you predicted, it is another one of Cienan’s traps.

The upcoming scene is a great example of how Julie and I work together. Julie draws the page based on my script. A lot of times I then go back in and rewrite some of the dialogue to ft the action sequences. It’s kind of a modified Marvel style. I’m pretty happy with it. Julie comes up with great ways to express scenes visually and the language can adapt to it.

I’m almost done with the script for Chapter 13. The story returns to Blaise and the Liranequois. The Liranequois are inspired by the Iroquois (Haudenosaunee) and I would like to bring in some artists who have first-hand knowledge of this culture. Are you a native artist who likes to draw comics? Do you know someone who is? Drop me a message. We have guest artists every chapter.

Jacqi and Mathilde form a friendship that crosses class boundaries on Chapter 12, Page 20. This may seem like not a big deal to us, but in class-conscious Saronne, it’s a big deal. I’m working on the script for Chapter 13, which I’ve titled Water Flows Down. I have a bit of post-party business to wrap up and then we’re back to Blaise and Snow-by-Night. To play off of Game of Thrones — Spring is coming.

Hello everyone! This week’s installment to the Almanac is the map of Sherbourg. This is a WIP. You get to see my pencil sketch on graph paper. My next step is to ink it in PS and draw in all the little buildings. Then I’ll ask Steph to help me add some color to it otherwise you’re just going to get flats. My last step is lettering.

The map of Sherbourg will be the last addition to the Almanac. I’ve pretty much covered everything I want to cover at the moment. I hope you enjoyed it. It’s going to stay up, and I’ve hidden lots of little hints and tidbits about the story in there. But at this point, I want to devote my time to writing more chapters. If I can get more buffer built up, I can increase posting from 2 pages a week to 3. And that is a goal I want to hit this year.

The Sherbourg map will continue to update after I get the Ch13 script done. When that is finished, my updates are M-W for a few months. If all goes as planned, I’ll switching to page updates on M-W-F starting with Ch14.

If you’re throwing a fête in Sherbourg, you want Mathilde in charge of your entertainment. Or so thinks Jacqueline on Chapter 12 Page 19. I think Julie and Naty like drawing and coloring fancy dresses. Or maybe I just like the way they draw dresses. I’ll have to include more ball scenes in the future. With intrigue and possibly smooching.

We’re back from KatsuCon, and I brought home a cold. And snow. Fortunately, the snow held off until today. Leaving Katsu on Sunday with 3-5 inches of snow on the ground would have been interesting.

Thanks to all your help with the lock, Jassart is able to open the vault door on Chapter 12, Page 18. You are all now partially responsible for what happens next. ;-)

We reordered the pages a bit. This page was grouped with the final scene of the chapter, but in editing, it made more sense to move it here. So the preview on Top Web Comics is the same as last time. If you haven’t seen it yet, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics.

I have a special surprise for everyone today. Diane put together a mini-game of the Vault Door using art by Julie and Steph. Can you help Jassart get through the vault door? The mini-game is based on the 15 Puzzle that’s been around for more than a century and a half. We made it a bit larger, and instead of numbers, the tiles form some sort of design. Bonus points if you recognize what that design is.

Solve the Vault puzzle, and you’ll get a prize! It’s a special wallpaper by Julie. Please don’t share the link to the prize with others. Make them solve the puzzle to win it.

While the puzzle will be linked between pages 17 and 18 on the site, it’s not necessary to solve the puzzle to continue the story.

Jassart finds the Vault on Chapter 12, Page 17. Unfortunately, it’s locked. And locked in an unconventional way.

Wednesday’s update is my surprise that we’ve been working on. I can’t wait to share it with you. (Evil laugh) No almanac  update on Friday as I’ll be at Katsucon (see below). KATSUCON this weekend! This is a fun convention. I particularly like how it’s a 20 minute drive away. Diane and I will be there at the Snow by Night table (G12).
