Serpents in the Water Page 3
April 27th, 2016Sherbourg is the ultimate goal of the Morantine fleet in Page 3 of Serpents in the Water. Strangely, General Sayre’s officers are less than enthusiastic. When you vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics, you can see Sayre’s answer to their objections. And no, it’s not Game of Thrones so he doesn’t kill them all.
Serpents in the Water Page 2
April 25th, 2016The Lions of Morante meet on Page 2 of Serpents in the Water. It was common practice in the navies of the Age of Sail to only open their orders when at sea. Ports were full of spies, and sailors were notoriously loose lipped.
Vote for Snow by Night to see the target of the Morantine fleet. You can probably guess because of the story I’ve been telling so far, but confirmation is always good.
Serpents in the Water Page 1
April 20th, 2016With scene 1 for Chapter 13 posted, I’m going back to the Ch12 Vignette, titled Serpents in the Water. It’s illustrated by Cindy Mirabile, who prefers old school drawing n paper with markers. It gives the pages a feel that works well for the vignette.
But what’s going on in the vignette? The Morantine Fleet has set sail. Where are they going? What is their destination? One of the sailors has some opinions.
Vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics to meet the Morantine officers. They’ll be playing an important role in the second half of Snow by Night.
Chapter 13 Page 7
April 18th, 2016A cocoon for a faerie hangs in the shrine on Chapter 13 Page 7. What sort of butterfly will emerge? I promise an answer before I end the chapter, but for now Pénélope must remain swathed in silk.
That’s the end of scene 1 for Chapter 13. On Wednesday, I’m switching over to the Chapter 12 vignette, which is now mostly done. This vignette is titled Serpents in the Water and is illustrated by Cindy Mirabile. We get to meet a new nationality in this vignette — the Morantines, Saronne’s arch-rival. We’ll find out what they’re up to soon enough. You can see a sample of Cindy’s art when you vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics.
So what does Snow by Night have in common with George R.R. Martin? We both will be attending Balticon in Baltimore over Memorial Day weekend! After you see the author of a Song of Ice and Fire, you can come find me at Table 22 in the Artist Alley. I’m really looking forward to this show.
Chapter 13 Page 6
April 13th, 2016Another great spirit makes its presence known on Chapter 13 Page 6. This is Melaithe, Speaker of Mysteries and Keeper of Secrets. The two-visaged spirit is the patron of Garthmoor, which is Cienan’s home. Melaithe has always been one of my favorite spirits. So many possibilities.
Vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics to see the end results of the knowledge that Melaithe shares with Cienan.
Chapter 13 Page 5
April 11th, 2016Cienan gathers the materials he needs to make Pénélope a body on Chapter 13, Page 5. Aether and blood. Fortunately, Jassart left both behind in the last chapter. Pénélope also appreciates all the aether that you have left behind when you played the lock puzzle.
There is a final piece that Cienan needs and he asks for help for it. If you want to see whom Cienan asks, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics. This is perhaps Cienan’s most dangerous secret.
Chapter 13 Page 4
April 6th, 2016Chapter 13 Page 4 reveals that Cienan likes to make deals. He’s made one with Pénélope and he’s made another one with someone else. If you want to see a hint of how Cienan makes the sprite a body, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics.
Chapter 13 Page 3
April 4th, 2016Ah, so you all were right. Chapter 13 Page 3 reveals that the vault was another trap laid by Cienan. Pénélope nearly wrecked it. Send better mortals, Cienan.
As for what exactly Pénélope is, the Almanac has a number of clues. Cienan is from Garthmoor, a large green and verdant (almost emerald) island. The mythology in Snow by Night is governed governed by the alchemical principle of All Is One. Everique has manitou, southern Japethe has manes. The islands of Albyn and Garthmoor have … something else. Reflections on a theme. Or maybe light through a prism of our perception.
