December 21st, 2016Cienan doesn’t sparkle so he’s probably not a vampire. Regardless, he has to leave Sherbourg soon, and he need to train his replacement. This concludes the scene. I’m taking a two-week-long holiday break starting next week. The next page update is January 9. I’ll try to have everything set up and ready to go before I go in for surgery on January 11. Diane will be covering things while I’m out.

December 14th, 2016Mathilde discovers the hidden shrine beneath Cienan’s maison (house). But it’s not really beneath the house at all. Cienan describes it in terms that a performer like Mathilde would be familiar with.

Surgery is set for January 11! I’m crossing my fingers that they just need to replace my bile duct and don’t have to go into the pancreas at all. Thank you all for the support. I hope to be with you all for a long time to come. We live in an age of miracle and wonder.

Thank you all for the kind words and encouragement. I’ve been meeting with doctors this week. Surgery to remove the cancer will be following in short order. Likely later this month. I’m usually take a two-week hiatus at the end of the year. I’ll be doing that again. I want to get to the end of this scene which is four pages away. So the last update this year is Dec. 21. I’ll pick back up Jan. 9, after the 12 Days of Christmas are over.

I have some other news and it’s both dreadful and incredible at the same time. Last week I was diagnosed with stage 1 bile duct cancer. I am incredibly fortunate that they caught it so early. This means I have a very good chance of surviving. Normally, this cancer is deadly because they don’t catch it until stage 3 or 4. It’s like winning the worst lottery I can imagine. As a PhD friend of mine said, I’m one lucky son of a bitch.
I will be having surgery later this month and then several rounds of chemo next year. If all goes well, the doctors will be able to remove the cancer entirely and the chemo will catch anything floating in my system. I intend to keep writing the scripts for Snow by Night and making Julie and Steph do all the heavily lifting.
The story is done, so if things go down hill in a hurry I’ll just post the summary of what is to come. However, that shouldn’t be necessary. I’m hopeful that the surgery will be successful.
