Recovery continues. I’m back in the gym this week. Doing lots of walking mostly. Lots and lots of walking. Somewhere along the way, I strained an abdominal muscle. That one hurts when I sit up or sit down. Oh, good news. My 6 month scan came back clean! No cancer re-emergence. That’s a very good sign! Hurray for no cancer!

July 26th, 2017Love begets love; fire begets fire. Pieter plans to harness Blaise’s emotions and transfer some of his fire to Snow-by-Night. The words remind Blaise of another ceremony he witnessed in Sherbourg many months ago.
In addition to emotion, the physical is an important part of alchemy and there must be a path for the fire to transverse. Either that or Pieter is kinky. See for yourself when you vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics!
Just a heads up, I am going to take a short hiatus after this chapter. Amanda Gomes is doing the next vignette which follows this chapter. It looks amazing, which is crucial because of how important this vignette is to the story. However, she’s had a rough year with moving, starting a new job, and then a death of a close member of her family. All of these have delayed page creation. Please excuse the brief delay while we finalize the vignette. The last page of Ch15 will be posted on Aug. 7. We’ll resume posting the vignette on Aug. 23. It’s only a couple of weeks and Steph and I will be at back-to-back conventions those two weeks anyway. If you’re going to Otakon or GenCon, come by and say hello!
When we start back up on Aug. 23, Snow by Night will be launching our new Patreon page! You’ll get to see Chapter 16 come together as Julie begins work on the thumbnails and Steph begins the color design work for the chapter. While the vignette is posting to the main webpage, I’ll be uploading the sketches, line art, and colors for Ch16 to the Patreon page. By the time the vignette is done, we should be about 8 pages ahead if not more. It’s going to be an exciting time to follow Snow by Night!

July 24th, 2017A hypothesis! Snow-by-Night must balance her elements and become more like Elemental Gold for her to find her heart. And Blaise is the path to do that. The experiment reminds Blaise of something far away and long ago as you can see when you vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics!
My hernia operation was successful and now it’s time to take it easy and give the muscles time to heal. This does meant that I have lots of time to work on scripts. I finished the vignette for Ch16 last night! Woo! That finishes up Volume 4. Now it’s time to start outlining Volume 5.

Speaking of experiment, I had a hernia operation last Friday and boy does this hurt. It was an incisional hernia from my operation back in January. My liver kept slipping out between my muscles and pressing up against my skin. It was as unsightly and uncomfortable as it sounds. I’m back home, resting and recovering. I’m going to be a bit slow for the next couple weeks, but it shouldn’t affect the posting schedule.

The ’Ringo Awards are replacing the Harvey Awards at Baltimore Comic Con. Mike Wieringo and his comic Tellos were an inspiration for Snow by Night with it combination of fantasy adventure, intrigue, and romance. I would be super-grateful if you would consider nominating Snow by Night for Best Webcomic. Nominations are open to the public until July 18!

I find it interesting to see how comics and prose can tell the same story and show the same scenes but subtlety differ. If I was writing this as prose, the last part of the page would have gone like this:
Snow reached up to touch Blaise’s face. The gesture was more analytical than romantic. “You have more fire now than when I met you.”
Blaise trembled at the touch. “Snow, I…”
Snow-by-Night put her fingers up in front of his mouth to stop him. “Blaise, stop. No. Do not ask for what I cannot give. You will only get hurt.”
Blaise blinked at the warning before answering in a small voice. “Oui, of course.”
The two continued to sit under the stars for some time. The clouds drifted across the sky, the windmill continued to spin, and the moment slipped away.
