Wild guess: the maids aren’t just random young ladies with oddly exorbitant salaries. In fact, they aren’t even human. It’s the only explanation for Jassart’s sudden deafness!

Jassart is either deaf, or she’s “quieter than the tomb.”
Also, those two statues he’s looking at appear to be referencing “speak no evil, hear no evil”, so is that foreshadowing for Jassart completing the trio with “see no evil”?
Seems to me their hands are just a bit out of position. It’s almost like a mockery of the concept.
This is the part in the movie where the background music is down to one soft, high-pitched, drawn out note. The impending doom note.
Right. So there is the equivalent of Celtic spiritual power out there in the ether also. The provincial mind needs to be opened up a bit. This invasion may involve more otherworldly forces than even Elk has been studying.
