Almanac – Seigneur

August 31st, 2012

This week’s Almanac entry is the Seigneur. Since so much of the action in this and the past chapter has centered around the manse of the Seigneur de Foucault, I wanted to talk a little bit about the “nobles” of Aradie. Yes, nobles is in quotes, because the nobility of Saronne would not consider them nobles at all.

I also have some good news and some bad news. The bad news first. Half of my staff is down in Atlanta attending DragonCon. If you are going and bump into them, please say hello. They’ll be the two artists flinging paint at people. Watch out. Naty kicks. Anyway, I will need to evoke the holiday clause for Labor Day. We will not be posting a page update on Monday. My apologies for any inconvenience. But we’ll have a fresh new page on Wednesday, and maybe something more, which brings me to the good news.

The good news! Diane is very close to having the store ready to roll. We’ll be putting the final touches on it over Labor Day weekend and we hope to have it up next week. Once that is up, you can order books, prints, and buttons. No more waiting for us to come to a convention near you. The store is pretty slick looking. Diane did a great job with it. I think you’ll like it.

Almanac – Guilds

August 23rd, 2012

For this week’s Almanac entry, I’m describing two more of the guilds of Sherbourg. Since Mathilde is visiting the marketplace, it seemed appropriate to discuss the Artisans’ League and the Mercers’ Consortium.

I still didn’t get a chance to upload all the pictures from GenCon. While I’m doing fine for having surgery, I’m on crutches and sleeping a lot. The convention report was one of the casualties. I’ll see about getting it done tomorrow. So keep an eye on our Facebook page.

Almanac – Pistols

August 17th, 2012

Journal entries are great, if you remember to do them. I completely spaced on it so this morning was a shock and scramble with lots of Muppet-like flailing. I sometimes wonder if I’d remember my name if people didn’t call me it all the time >_<; Oi Vey.

Anyways, Things have been a bit crazy but we’re still gearing up for Chapter 5. This one should be a lot of fun! A bit more action and some consequences for past action. Or maybe actions? Guess you gotta stay tuned to find out. C:

Thanks again to all who stop by and read. And a special thanks to those who comment! It means a lot to us, even when it’s a critique! It means the world to know you took the time to comment, so thanks!

Again, sorry this is so short. Life distracted me and I fell short this week on my duties >__<;; Arg!

~Britt

Diane’s note: It’s okay Britt, both Eric AND I forgot about the update too! Whoops. That’s a lot of memory loss right there. Sorry about the confusion, and I hope you enjoy Eric’s update to our Alamanc entry under Weapons.

Almanac – Morante

August 9th, 2012

This week’s Almanac entry is Morante. This rival nation to Saronne has been mentioned several times in the course of the comic, most recently in Ald’s tale. So I figured it was time to reveal a little bit of information about the country.

GenCon is next week. I’ll be running D&D Next adventures most of the time, showing people the new system for my favorite RPG. We’ll be running interested players through adventures set in Menzoberranzan, which just happens to be the city I wrote a book about. Amazon has updated their records for Menzoberranzan: City of Intrigue to list me as one of the authors.

This week’s Almanac entry is War as Process, which includes the dreadful activity of Make War Feed War. This theory of warfare aims to deprive the enemy of its ability to supply its army. By burning crops and destroying any available resources, attrition starts to take its toll. Dragoons were commonly used for this task and Ald’s company was particularly good at it.

Almanac – Malsum

July 12th, 2012

Honestly, that Eric – always running off to conventions without me! Next time I’ll sneak into his trunk with my pet monkey. That’ll show him.

Anyway, while he’s at Connecticon this weekend, I’ll be handling today’s Almanac update in the Mythic Beings chapter of People. As some of you predicted, our entry focuses on Malsum, a manitou that Snow-by-Night instinctively fears.

What I want to know is where all the happy manitou are. Can our next Almanac update have the manitou of rainbows, or maybe the manitou of group hugs?

Ah, it’s Brittany here. Eric’s out of town so I get to commandeer the journal entry for today. Today is about Alchemical Compounds. O.o

Fun fact: Alchemy used many symbols that people can recognize today. Symbols of the planets (all you Sailor Moon fans out there know them. Don’t lie! You know you do!) and the zodiac were all incorporated in alchemy. If you go back to where you first meet Bertrande you can spot the signs for Leo, Sagittarius, and an alternate sign for the metal Copper among others. Each of the elements had a Glyph created for them using traditional alchemy signs and symbols, the occasional rune, and of course some good, old-fashioned Geometry. Gotta love the circles. C:

If you’ve been by the table at cons you’ve seen that we’re now selling prints and buttons of the elemental glyphs. They’ll also be available in the store once it’s up. You can also get a preview of them here on my DeviantArt page.

That wasn’t a shameless plug… really… it wasn’t… I mean, you don’t have to look it’s just… oh, nevermind.

Almanac – Torrid Zone

June 28th, 2012

This week’s Almanac entry is the Torrid Zone – the region of Corthis at the equator. It is hot, hot, hot, and directly under the sun. It was once believed to be uninhabitable, but several great civilizations have proven that theory wrong. Explorers are still looking for those legendary giants though.
