Almanac: Vignerot Hospital

August 1st, 2014

Hello everyone. Sorry for the delay on the almanac, but we were having server issues last night Today’s Almanac is the Vigenerot Hospital in Sherbourg. This hospital is loosely based upon the Hôtel-Dieu de Québec, the oldest hospital in Canada. You can find a great history of it by Bill Trent in the Canadian Medical Association Journal. For this entry, I enjoyed making Anne-Marie and Michel Sazarrin, my homage to Michel Sarrazin. Maybe someday we’ll do a vignette with these two healers fighting the plague spirit of 1612. I love playing healers in RPGs so the idea of a baroque-era philosopher and habit-wearing cleric kicking evil spirit butt warms my heart.

It’s the first of the month and the votes have reset on Top Web Comics. Please vote for Snow by Night.

Otakon is next weekend. We’ll be there with some new prints. In celebration of the release of Sailor Moon Crystal, Amanda Gomes drew a set of prints for us with Sailor Moon in 18th century naval uniforms with their powers being alchemical based. Here’s a preview of Sailor Moon. We’ll post more sailors next week.

Sailor Horatio Moon

We have this handy map of where to find Snow by Night (featuring me and Diane), Ianua (featuring Julie), and Final Arcanum (featuring Steph). Steph is sharing a table with Ava’s Demon so she’s on the map as well.

Chapter 9 Page 3

July 27th, 2014

We return to Sherbourg in Chapter 9 Page 3, where we find Jassart receiving a lot of visitors as he recovers in the hospital. To see a bit more of this charming scene, please vote for Snow by Night at Top Web Comics.

August is quickly approaching and that is the month of cons. Diane and I will be attending Otakon on Aug. 8-10. You can find us at Table M-03, right across the aisle from Ianua and next to Spinnerette. We’ll have some new top secret prints, but also a new booth set up. Diane and I have reimagined our table as a colonial trading post complete with chests, baskets, blankets, and crates. I’m really pleased with how well it came together. We couldn’t have done it without some supplies from the Smithsonian Museum of the Native American Indian and some gift baskets from the Red Lake Nation (their wild blueberry syrup is incredible).

GenCon follows on the heels of Otakon on Aug. 14-17. Busy month!

Chapter 9 Page 2

July 22nd, 2014

Blaise flees Sherbourg in Chapter 9 Page 2. The journey to Ville Marcelet is filled with disappointment and despair. To see a glimpse of the next page, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics.

Next month will be a busy one for us. We have two — yes two! — conventions. And they’re big ones too. The first is Otakon on August 8-10, where we will have a brand new secret set of prints (Shhhh! They’re secret). Diane will be attending the convention with me. Julie will be oh so far way sitting across the aisle and well within paper airplane range.

The next convention is GenCon on August 14-17. We’ll be in the Author’s Avenue. Diane is running off to be an NPC in the True Dungeon (She’s truant! Truant, I tell you!) so I’ll be joined by Québécois friend Éloïse. She may or may not be the inspiration for Mathilde. Either way, she’s threatening to come cosplaying as our favorite chanteuse, and you certainly don’t want to miss that.

The following week, I’m going to collapse and catch up on sleep.

*EDIT* Diane wants me to mention that the RSS feed got “Borked” in the site upgrade. We’re working to de-Bork it (unBork it?), but the Borking is being highly resistant to our anti-Borking technologies. Hopefully, the RSS feed will be fully Borkfree soon. I’ll let you know.

Birds of a Feather Page 7

April 15th, 2014

Jassart finds the secret door on Birds of a Feather page 7. No dwarves and their seamless stone doors in Sherbourg, but a little bit of wood moulding can hide a lot. To see what’s in the hidden cache, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics.

Oh, we will have an update for the Almanac this Friday after all. A great artist friend of mine, Jose Ortiz, did a fantastic ouroboros for me. We’ll be including that into the alchemy page.

AwesomeCon is this weekend. Snow by Night is at booth 347. We’re bringing something new this time — a set of 8 prints titled the Roses of Alchemy. Each of the eight roses displays a different color rose and its symbolic meaning in alchemy. I’ll be posting previews on the Snow by Night facebook page.

Birds of a Feather Page 5

April 8th, 2014

Blaise and Jassart toss Henriette’s house and workshop in Birds of a Feather page 5. Jassart then heads down to the basement. To see what he finds there, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics.

The championship round of the Art Contest ends this Saturday. Two excellent submissions await your consideration. Vote for your favorite. You can vote once a day so if you like them both you can vote for one on one day and the other the next day.

Snow by Night will be at AwesomeCon on April 18-20. We’re sharing an endcap with Julie and Amanda of Ianua at Booth 347. I’m hoping to have some new goodies available there. Hopefully, the print run will be done on time.

Chapter 8 Page 20

February 18th, 2014

The powder explodes and sends Jassart flying on Chapter 8 Page 20. To see more carnage, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics.

I’ve got some recent convention news. Snow by Night will be at Animazement in Raleigh NC on May 23-25 and at Connecticon in Hartford, CT on July 10-13. I applied for an Author’s Avenue table for GenCon, but was wait listed. Cross your fingers with me to see if we can get into the four best days in gaming!

Submissions for our Art Contest are due March 1. Send us your art. Cast your hat in the ring. Cash prizes for the top 8 places.

Almanac – Alchemical Processes

February 14th, 2014

While Eric is busy packing up for Katsucon tomorrow, I’ve taken over updating the Almanac for him tonight! Take a look at the alchemical processes of calcination and dissolution, two opposite transformations to the water in a substance.

If you’re going to be at Katsucon, make sure to swing by and say hello to Eric and Brittany! They’ll have prints, buttons, and books for sale with a special con discount available. And if you can’t make it to a con near us, you can always check out our online Store for colonial fantasy swag!

We’ll see you on Monday with Jassart’s final decision… Until then, you can still catch a sneak peek over at Top Web Comics.

PS. Don’t forget about our upcoming Art Contest!
