Bertrande offers Jassart a solution to all of his problems in Chapter 6 Page 11. A solution so horrible that even he shies away from it. And for our vote incentive on Top Web Comic — clothing!
Our Art Contest continues. Eight contestants; four match ups. Vote today (and everyday) to help pick the winners. Also, Diane and I will be at Zenkaikon this weekend. Come by and see us if you’re attending.
We went live with our site redesign over this past weekend. While most of the changes were welcomed, several readers brought up their love of the landing page. This page gave a preview of the latest page and contained link icons to Page 1 and the Table of Contents. I liked both of the link icons, so the icons will be returning as soon as the art is finished for them.
So what is your preference? Should we post the latest page of the comic on the index page of the site? Or should we post a preview that takes you to the latest page of the comic? Let us know. We want this to be an enjoyable reading experience.

Jassart is wandering the town randomly annoying people in Chapter 6 Page 10. Or does he have pressing business with the alchemist? Hard to tell with Jassart. To see a peek at Wednesday’s page, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics.
So much news to go through today. First off, the Art Contest. The victors of Round 1 (the Sweet 16) are Minuiko, Laura Hollingsworth, Cristina Marin, Rein Eire, Melissa Teo, Amasugiru, Jesse Bechtold, and Shawna Alkira. Congratulations! I also want to thank Li Mei Ren, Delphina, Jennifer Zyren Smith, Pchoberry, NausicaaHime, Jose Ortiz, Manou Azumi, and Jennifer Middleton. Your art was splendid. Thank you so much for entering our contest.
We have four new contests to decide. Voting is now open. Good luck to all of you!
This weekend is Zenkaikon. We’ll be there with Chapters 1-4, as well as prints, and buttons. Our newest button is “I’m Fluent in Metaphor”. These words by Mathilde were very popular at Katsucon where we sold out of them.
Our last big piece of news is the site redesign. For that, I’m turning the journal over to Diane.
H, Diane here! You may have noticed a dramatic change in how things look around here. Our conversion over to PHP is finally here, with continual tweaks to be added as we go. One big improvement is the added Journal entries beneath each Story page – now you can feel free to comment on your favorite pages in the Story archive as you read through! Each Story page has been enlarged to a width of 750px in the new layout, too. We also have updated Share/Follow buttons on our sidebar so you can help spread the word of Snow by Night. If you have any suggestions, or notice any issues with the new site (I’m only human!) please let us know so we can continue to improve!
Almanac – Aether Extraction
March 14th, 2013Aether Extraction (commonly called Tapping) is the subject of this week’s Almanac entry. The term tapping comes from how the process resembles tapping maple trees for their syrup. An underground economy has sprung up around this process as it’s a quick way to make a lot of money. You just have to be willing to give away a little piece of your vitality.
The Art Contest is in full swing. Remember to vote daily for your favorite piece of art. We are all impressed by every piece submitted so you voters have a challenge on your hands to pick the best.
Alas, Snow by Night fell out of ComixMix’s webcomic tournament. We lost to a fine webcomic called the Abominable Charles Christopher. Our thanks to all of our fans who voted for us, and we wish all the remaining contestants best of luck.

The competition in our Art Contest is heating up. Many of the contests are separated by just a few votes. Be sure to vote for your favorite pieces and let your opinion be heard.
Snow by Night made it to Round 2 of the Webcomics Tournament by Comic Mix. Unfortunately, we’ve fallen behind the Abominable Charles Christopher by 36 votes. Please take a minute to vote for Snow by Night. Voting for this round ends March 13 at 9 pm (EDT).
Whew! That was a lot of voting requests for one journal entry. Thank you all for your support.

Bertrande makes her return as Jassart pays her a visit in Chapter 6 Page 8. What is he up to? What is she up to? Nothing good, that’s for sure. Do you think tapping might be this Friday’s Almanac entry? Chances are pretty good. To see a preview of Wednesday’s page (and what Bertrande is doing), please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics.
We’ll be at Zenkaikon on March 22-24. We’ll be at Table 17 in the Artist Alley. This is our first convention in Eastern Pennsylvania. Come see us if you’re attending.

Almanac – Nuit Longue
March 7th, 2013This week’s Almanac is Nuit Longue – the Longest Night. It is the holiday that Blaise mentions in his conversation with Mathilde in the chocolate house. It’s the Winter Solstice, Yule, and New Year’s Eve all rolled into one.
Only a few more days left to vote for your favorite entry in our Art Contest. I’m impressed with all of the entries and overwhelmed that so many good artists submitted something to us. Good luck to all of you.
And we have another contest going on. Snow by Night earned a place in Comic Mix’s 2013 Webcomic Tournament. Snow by Night is in the second bracket (titled the Kubert bracket), paired against Dreamland Chronicles (a fine webcomic). Please give us your vote. We greatly appreciate your support.
Chapter 6 Page 7

Today begins the voting for our Art Contest! We received 21 incredible entries. Thank you all so much for taking the time and energy to create a piece of art based on our comic. Brittany, Diane, and I really appreciate you taking the time to enter our contest.
To set up the single-elimination tournament, we’re going to have a qualifying round. This first week, we will put all the entries together and have open voting. Each person can vote once per day, and voting ends on midnight March 9 (Eastern). The 16 entries with the highest vote totals will move onto the Sweet 16 where we will pick up with single elimination. The vote totals for the qualifying round will also determine each entries’ rank for the single elimination rounds. 1 will be paired with 16. 2 will be paired with 15 and so forth. Head on over to the Art Contest page and vote for your favorite entry!
