Birds of a Feather Page 5

April 8th, 2014

Blaise and Jassart toss Henriette’s house and workshop in Birds of a Feather page 5. Jassart then heads down to the basement. To see what he finds there, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics.

The championship round of the Art Contest ends this Saturday. Two excellent submissions await your consideration. Vote for your favorite. You can vote once a day so if you like them both you can vote for one on one day and the other the next day.

Snow by Night will be at AwesomeCon on April 18-20. We’re sharing an endcap with Julie and Amanda of Ianua at Booth 347. I’m hoping to have some new goodies available there. Hopefully, the print run will be done on time.

Chapter 8 Page 27

March 18th, 2014

Fire, Fire, FIRE! More colonists join the fight against the flames on Chapter 8 Page 27. Fires were a terrible threat to colonial towns in the 18th century. If left uncontrolled, a fire could wipe out an entire town, leaving the population to freeze and starve in the harsh winters of North America. You can read some of how the colonists fought fires on the Williamsburg site. As for the fire truck they’re using on today’s page, here’s the actual device. The Richard Newsham’s Fire Engine. You can see it in operation here.

To see one of the panels from the upcoming final page of this chapter, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics.

And our Art Contest is in full swing! Please vote for your favorite piece in the qualifier round. The top 8 pieces will move on to the single-elimination tournament. You can vote daily through Saturday at midnight.

Almanac – Alchemy Processes 2

February 21st, 2014

This week’s Almanac entry is the next two alchemical processes – separation and conjunction. Alchemy always works on the mental and spiritual levels as well as the physical. If I do my job right, you’ll see these processes at work on the characters in the story.

We’re doing a lot of alchemy in the almanac this chapter. I’m trying to give all interested artists more fuel for the theme of our Art Contest. Only one more week to go! Send us your submissions soon. We’d love to see your take on our tale of colonial fantasy.

Chapter 8 Page 18

February 11th, 2014

Jassart and Bertrande deal with the aftermath of Blaise’s escape on Chapter 8 Page 18. Jassart faces the choice of helping Bertrande or rescuing the aether. To see a hint of Jassart’s fate, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics.

Katsucon is this weekend. We’ll be there in the Artist Alley, enticing poor unsuspecting anime fans to read alt history comics. Also, I want to remind everyone about our Art Contest. Share all your arts with us! The Snow by Night Team would love to see what your vision of our characters.

Chapter 8 Page 17

February 10th, 2014

Blaise makes a hasty exit on Chapter 8 Page 17, as the binding circle collapses in itself with nothing to contain. I’m rather happy with the sound effects on this page. The BZAAAAT took several different layers with masks and opacity to work it in right. To see what’s become of Jassart and Bertrande, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics. We’re in the top 15! Wow. We’ve never been this high before. Our thanks to all of you!

An update on our Art Contest! We’ve decided to adopt a theme for this year’s contest. The theme is Alchemy! Submissions should have at least one Snow by Night NPC  and something to do with alchemy. We’re taking a broad view of Alchemy. It can be alchemical theory, processes, the elements, or anything else alchemical related. I’ll even consider astronomy to be part of Alchemy because of the strong influences that the planets have on alchemy. To see what people did last year, check out last year’s Art Contest archive.

Katsucon is this weekend. I’ll be there Friday and Sunday. Brittany will be there all three days. Books, buttons, and prints! Come by and get some merch and wacky conversation.

Brittany and I were interviewed on TGT on Saturday. You can see the interview on YouTube. Brittany is awesome, while I’m showing off my collection of old maps. Kurt, the interviewer, is a great guy and was a lot of fun to talk to.

Fan Art – Will Friday

March 31st, 2013

No page update today as we were all busy with the Easter holiday. Instead, we have this lovely piece of fan art created by Will Friday. Will missed our deadline for the Art Contest, and based on the quality of the art, the other competitors should consider themselves lucky. Check out Will’s amazing portfolio.

Our Art Contest enters its final week. Our thanks to Shawna and Cristina. Your art was amazing and you gave our two finalists a solid challenge. And congratulations to Laura Hollingsworth and Amasugiru. They are our finalists. You can vote daily from now until Saturday night. The winner of this round is our victor of the entire art contest!

My apologies. I was supposed to get in touch with the contestants who placed in the earlier rounds last week, but life got away from me. I’ll be in touch this week. Hold tight. I haven’t forgotten about you.

Fan Art – Ben Thornton

March 21st, 2013

This week’s Almanac entry was supposed to be the character description for Claude, Bertrande’s assistant. Unfortunately, time got away from me, and I didn’t get a chance to get it written. A big contributor to that was trying to get a program layout for a theatre production in under four hours. Good times, but we got it done.

To the rescue comes Ben Thornton. He was working on a submission for our Art Contest but wasn’t done in time. So instead, he submitted it as fan art. Go check it out and then take a look at his portfolio. Thank you, Ben!

Speaking of our the Art Contest, there’s still two days left in the voting. Some of the contests are really close. So remember to vote for your favorites. Although how do you choose? They’re all excellently done.

Diane and I are heading to Zenkaikon tomorrow morning. Come and see us in the Artist Alley if you’re going.

Art Contest

January 17th, 2013

Hello, everyone! Diane here, covering for Eric and Brittany while they’re making the long trek through awful traffic towards our next convention. Ohayocon is the shining light at the end of the tunnel to celebrate once they arrive around midnight! If you’re attending, please stop by and pester them both for me. They need a good pesterin’.

Instead of the typical Almanac update, tonight we bring you news of our first official Art Contest! Check out all the details here.

We’re offering cash prizes for the top 8 finalists, and submissions are open until March 1st. Even if you aren’t interested or able to enter, please tell your friends! Any medium is welcome, so long as we can clearly tell the piece of art has to do with Snow by Night. Voting will open on March 4th and will be decided by popular vote throughout the week, eliminating the pool of entries until we reach our top finalist. (There can be only one! /cue dramatic music)

If you have any questions or comments, feel free to post them here or send us an e-mail at artcontest@snowbynight.com. Best of luck to you all! I can’t wait to see what comes our way!
