Birds of a Feather Page 2
March 30th, 2014The man with the purple cravat makes his appearance on Birds of a Feather Page 2. Did you think we were done with him? Ha ha. He’ll be around for a while. To see how the first meeting between Laurent and Jassart goes, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics.
The first round of our Art Contest is done. My thanks to all the Elite 8 submissions, and congratulations to Laura Chilson, Amasugiru, Monica Marier, and Rein Eire who are moving on to the next round. We’re starting the Final 4 round today. You can vote once a day.
Almanac – Brandy
March 27th, 2014This week’s Almanac entry is Brandy! This potent liquor is an important trade good and a key part of the Fur Trade in Everique. Since this is an alchemical setting, I’m running with the idea that liquor is the spirit of the grain or fruit, released through distillation. So drunkenness is caused by imbibing too much Sophic Mercury. This could have interesting implications for our story.
This round of the Art Contest closes on Saturday at midnight. Get your votes in quickly.
Birds of a Feather Page 1
March 25th, 2014Today we begin the vignette Birds of a Feather. For this vignette, we’re climbing into the WABAC machine and going back in time. Our destination is Sherbourg two years before current events to see Jassart meeting Blaise and Mathilde for the first time. To see who shows up next, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics.
This vignette is illustrated by two very talented artists. Shazzbaa of Runewriters is doing the lines while Steph Stober of Final Arcanum is doing the colors. I love their style. It’s perfect for our flashback to skullduggery and adventure.
Don’t forget to vote in our Art Contest!
Chapter 8 Page 28
March 23rd, 2014Blaise watches from a safe distance on Chapter 8 Page 28. Things have gone terribly wrong. All he has left are the two amethysts that were Snow-by-Night’s eyes. And with that we end Chapter 8.
On Wednesday, we’re beginning Birds of a Feather, the vignette for Chapter 8. For this story, we’re going back in time by two years to see how Blaise and Jassart met. As an incredibly special treat, our guest artists for the vignette are Shazzbaa of Runewriters and Steph Stober of Final Arcanum. To see a preview of their take on Jassart and Mathilde, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics.

Almanac – Planetary Metals 3
March 21st, 2014This week’s Almanac entry are the final three of the planetary metals – mercury, silver, and gold. These are the three most mysterious and noble of the metals.
Interesting fact. Silver was widely believed to be a barrier to disease in Europe. That is why silver was the metal of choice for plates and tableware. Silver was so ubiquitous in tableware that today utensils are called silverware even when they aren’t made of silver. Modern scientific research is backing up this faith in the value of silver for health. Silver does have some anti-microbial properties. Anti-bacterial creams are better at fighting bacteria, but I can’t eat off of that. Maybe I should go dig out my grandmother’s old silverware and start eating off of that…
Art Contest qualifier round ends Saturday night at midnight. Get your votes in to get your favorite pieces to the next round.
Chapter 8 Page 27
March 18th, 2014Fire, Fire, FIRE! More colonists join the fight against the flames on Chapter 8 Page 27. Fires were a terrible threat to colonial towns in the 18th century. If left uncontrolled, a fire could wipe out an entire town, leaving the population to freeze and starve in the harsh winters of North America. You can read some of how the colonists fought fires on the Williamsburg site. As for the fire truck they’re using on today’s page, here’s the actual device. The Richard Newsham’s Fire Engine. You can see it in operation here.
To see one of the panels from the upcoming final page of this chapter, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics.
And our Art Contest is in full swing! Please vote for your favorite piece in the qualifier round. The top 8 pieces will move on to the single-elimination tournament. You can vote daily through Saturday at midnight.
Chapter 8 Page 26
March 16th, 2014The fire brigade arrives at the burning laboratory on Chapter 8 Page 26. Wooden colonial towns were prepared for fire as it was an ever present danger. We modeled that fire truck of off a working model they have at Williamsburg. To see the colonial fire engine in action, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics.
I’m pleased to announce the start of our 2014 Art Contest! We have 11 entries. This first week is the qualifier round. Almanac – Planetary Metals 2
March 15th, 2014This week’s Almanac entry are the planetary metals Iron and Copper. They represent the male and female energies of their planets. I was thinking of dear lost Bertrande while writing the Iron entry. Perhaps you agree?
