And this is why all the pretty speeches in the world won’t make any difference. There are only 2 kinds of peace in this world: the peace of overwhelming strength, and the peace of the grave.
Perhaps the best quote on war that I have ever seen came from someone who survived the World War I trenches and hated war with a passion… but still knew better than to be a peacenik:
It needs but one foe to breed a war, not two, and those who have not swords can still die upon them.
Does that mean war continues sometimes when it doesn’t need to? OF COURSE… but to have any view of war is, in the long term, just plain suicide.
