February 10th, 2014Blaise makes a hasty exit on Chapter 8 Page 17, as the binding circle collapses in itself with nothing to contain. I’m rather happy with the sound effects on this page. An update on our Art Contest! We’ve decided to adopt a theme for this year’s contest. The theme is Alchemy! Submissions should have at least one Snow by Night NPC and something to do with alchemy. We’re taking a broad view of Alchemy. It can be alchemical theory, processes, the elements, or anything else alchemical related. I’ll even consider astronomy to be part of Alchemy because of the strong influences that the planets have on alchemy. To see what people did last year, check out last year’s Art Contest archive.
Katsucon is this weekend. I’ll be there Friday and Sunday. Brittany will be there all three days. Books, buttons, and prints! Come by and get some merch and wacky conversation.
Brittany and I were interviewed on TGT on Saturday. You can see the interview on YouTube. Brittany is awesome, while I’m showing off my collection of old maps. Kurt, the interviewer, is a great guy and was a lot of fun to talk to.
Almanac – The Three Essentials
February 7th, 2014This week’s Almanac entry is the Three Essentials. The soul of Sulfur and the spirit of Mercury unite to create the body of Salt. Salt provides the form to the consciousness and the life force of its parents, yet it is the result of their existence. In alchemical theory, consciousness creates life and together they beget the body. So René Descartes famous quote “I think therefore, I am.” is literally true for alchemy.
Another interesting fact In alchemical theory. Sulfur represents energy, Mercury represents light. and Salt represents mass. Alchemists understood the relationship between energy, mass, and light as they are the Three Essentials that comprise all existance. This relationship would later be given substance of a scientific equation of Sulfur = Salt x Mercury2. Einstein may have used different notation.

Almanac – Prime Matter
January 24th, 2014Today’s Almanac entry is the Prime Matter. This is the foundation stone of the universe in alchemical theory. You can see it in Greek mythology as the chaos that existed before the creation of the world. It is the nothing of the empty waters of Genesis. And you can see it in many other creation stories from around the globe. But to the alchemists of Corthis, the Prime Matter still exists, lurking under the covers of reality, waiting for someone to find it.

Almanac – Elemental Square of Opposition
January 9th, 2014This week’s Almanac entry is the Elemental Square of Opposition. I’ve described the four elements before. Now we get to see how they interact. And the entry comes with a handy graphic for illustration purposes.
Snow by Night will be at Ohayocon on Jan 24-26. Brittany and her sister Bethany will be manning the table. I will be staying at home this time. My wife and I are expecting our second child this month so no convention trips for me for a bit. If you’re going by Ohayocon, be sure to go by and tell Brittany hello.

A Life So Free Page 3
October 29th, 2013Peyre explains his love for the life of a voyageur in Page 3 of A Life So Free. The voyageurs were the long-haul truckers of colonial French Canada. They paddled canoes loaded with trade goods from Montreal to the native towns on the Great Lakes then made the return trip laden with furs. Almanac – Blazoners and Erudite Guilds
October 17th, 2013This week’s Almanac entry are the two wealthiest guilds in town — the Blazoners’ and the Order of the Erudite. Mathilde made it to Bertrande’s laboratory where we can see the alternate guild marque of the Erudite. Diane has draw the guild marques to accompany the entry.
I’m pleased to announce that we now have digital downloads of Chapters 1 through 4 available in the Snow by Night Store. These are pdfs of the chapter books. When you order them through the store, you’ll get an unique download URL to get the chapter. Diane has tested the pdfs on the Kindle and they work there too.
Finally, Snow by Night will be attending NekoCon next month in Hampton Roads, Virginia. It’s a fun convention and we always have a great time there.
